UK breaks bracelet record

UK breaks bracelet recordSteve Jelinek made it bracelet number five for Blighty in the $1,500 PLO Hi/Lo 8, just days after Vic stalwart Mike Ellis had steered his way through a massive field of 2,400 to take the fourth UK bracelet in the $1.5k NLH. This means that the UK has broken the record for the amount of bracelets taken by any nation in one Series, bar the host nation.

UK tournament regular Jelinek went into the final day second in the chip counts and kept the pressure on throughout the final tabie. Big names came and went (Barry Greenstein in 12th and Phil Hellmuth in 7th) until just Jelinek and American John Gottlieb were left standing.

The Birmingham based player eventually sealed the win holding     on a      board against Gottlieb's of    . He celebrated a $245,871 payday.

"You would not know how much this means to me because I've been a professional for two-and-a-half years and a serious player for seven. I've been down on my lurk, maybe through poor play, maybe through a bit of mismanagement, or picking the wrong games. My bankroll was down a bit. I decided to come to the WSOP this year and try and get a gold bracelet to try and continue my poker career and that's what it means to me - not only to win the biggest prize in poker, in the best setting, in the best tournaments, against the best players - but to be able to continue my poker career as a winner."

Fellow UK players Darren Sprengers and Joel Ettedgi both enjoyed deep runs, finishing in 11th and 9th positions, respectively.
