Five Card Stud

Five Card Stud is played almost in the same way as Seven Card Stud. The difference is that each player gets 5 cards instead of seven. The first card is closed, the other cards are open.

 

Round 1: Ante

All players place their ante, or blind. This is often 10-25% of the minimum bet.
 


Round 2: dealing of 1 closed card and 1 open card

All players get 1 closed card (pocket card or hole card) and 1 open card (door card).
 

For  instance:


1st betting round
The first betting round starts at the player with the lowest open card on the table. This plaer must bet half the minimum bet (the bring-in). The next player can increase this bet to the minimum bet, or he can decide to fold. The other players can call, raise, check or fold.
 


Round 3: 3th street

All the players get another extra open card (so the second open card for every player).

2nd betting round
From now on, the betting rounds start at the player with the best open card hand combination. So is higher than . This player can choose to fold, bet (play for the minimum bet) or check (pass his turn). The other players can call (go along with the bet), raise (raise the stakes), fold (give up their hand) or bet (when the previous player has checked).
 


Round 4: 4th street

All players get another open card.


For instance:     


3rd betting round
The player that has the best open cards, starts. Now the maximum bets start. The round goes the same as the round before.
 


Round 5: River (5th street)

All the players get another new open card.


For instance:     


4th and final betting round
Here, the player with the best open hand combination starts again. Then, this round goes the same as the previous rounds again.

 

Showdown

Each player that's still in the game now shows his hand. The player with the best poker hand of five cards wins the pot. In this example, the closed card was a . So, this player probably had the highest hand combination with a nut straight ( ) unless other players had a flush or better.
