Phil Helmuth jr.

Phil Helmuth Jr. describes himself as a "poker brat". Helmuth was born in Madison, Wisconsin, as the son of a university dean. He got into poker seriously when he went to the University of Wisconsin. He soon found out that he liked poker more than studying for tests.

When he was 24 years old, he debuted at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). In 1989, he beat Johnny Chan who was two time world champion at that time, and became the youngest winner in the history of WSOP. In 1991 he finished in the top 5 of a Hall of Fame tournament in the Horseshoe Casino. In 1993, he won three WSOP tournaments, in one year! In 1995, he also won the title at the Hall of Fame tournament.

Helmuth plays every single poker game, but he has won all his major victories by playing Texas Hold'em. He lives around San Fransisco Bay these days. He still plays high-stakes poker and he's a welcome guest at every major poker tournament. He also wrote a book, 'Play Poker Like The Pros'.
