Scotty Nguyen
Nguyen ("Win") escaped South Vietnam in 1979 on a small boat, that broke down in the middle of the sea. He and his family were picked up by an American navy ship, that brought them to the US. Scotty arrived without a dime, and eventually settled down in Chicago.
The story of Thuan "Scotty" Nguyen is the story of rags to riches. When Scotty was 21, he moved to Las Vegas where he started to work as a croupier. In his spare time, he placed some small bets, and took part in the small daily tournaments. In the next few years, Nguyen practiced his poker skills, quit his job as croupier and became a fulltime poker player. In 1997 Scotty won the Omaha High-Low Split tournament of the WSOP. In 1998 he won the most important tournament of the WSOP by beating 350 players (which was a record at the time).
