Amarillo Slim

Thomas Austin Preston, which is his official name, was born in Arkansas and assumed this legendary name when he bought a ranch in Texas using the money he won by gambling. Back in the day, Slim didn't earn his money playing poker, but by playing pool.

His interest in gambling led Slim to other legendary players of his time, such as Doyle Brunson, Brian "Sailor" Roberts and Johnny Moss. Amarillo Slim won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 1972.

Apart from having a talent to play poker he was also good at selling himself with stories that entertained millions of television viewers. He has often been a guest on The Tonight Show and many other television and radio shows. Slim also organised the Super Bowl of Poker, that was the single largest poker event for years. These days, he lives in the town he named himself after, Amarillo.
