Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan came to the United States from China when he was 9 years old. His parents started a restaurant in Houston. When he was 21, Chan moved to Las Vegas where he started working as a cook. After work, he played poker quite often, and would sometimes sit at the poker table with his chef's hat on. Eventually, Johnny Chan made enough money playing poker to quit his job as a cook. He became a fulltime poker player.
In 1987 he won his first world title. The year after that, he won again. In 1989 he planned on winning the title for the third consecutive time, something that nobody had accomplished at that time. He ended up taking second place instead, as newcomer Phil Helmuth Jr. took first place. Johnny Chan also played in the movie Rounders, a poker movie from 1998 with Matt Damon.
