common features

To play backgammon at Ladbrokes, you don't have to download any software. You can use a Flash version to play. Please note that you will need Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. If you don't have it, or aren't sure if you do, you can download it here. This way, even Mac or Linux users can enjoy playing backgammon.

All players at Ladbrokes have a so called rating. When you win games,  your rating goes up. When you lose games, your rating goes down. If you beat an opponent that has a higher rating than you do, it will have a bigger influence on  your rating compared to beating a player that's rated lower than you are. Look out though: if a player with a higher rating loses against you on purpose, you will be removed from the game immediately and you can never return to Ladbrokes again.

Ladbrokes Backgammon uses 128 bit encryption and SSL technology to keep your confidential information safe and secure.

You can chat to your opponent and you can chat in any language that you want. Of course you cannot just call people names, if you do your account could be suspended. If you want, you can play more than 2 games at the same time.

The winner of a match pays for the rake/commission of both players. The rake structure is as follows:

At a single match:

Up to $ 50: rake is 2.5%

Between $100 and $200: rake is 1.5%

Over $200: rake is 1.25%

At a serial match, the rake is charged over the total prize money plus 0.125% for every extra point in more than 1 game. The winner pays for both players, and maxed at 11 points (1.25%).

When competing in tournaments, you don't pay a rake. Instead, you pay a small portion of the buy-in, which is usually around 10%.

Ladbrokes has some of the lowest rakes in the online backgammon industry, if not the lowest.
